My mentor at work is amazing. I’ve had a great time working with her. She’s given me fun projects to work on, has shown me the ropes, and become a good friend. It’s because of her I’ve enjoyed working at Microsoft.
She’s a huge music fan, and when I first started working at Microsoft she kept asking me questions about Canadian music – as if Canadians listen to music destinct from Americans. And although a lot of music on the radio is by American artists, there is also a lot of Canadian artists that are awesome and have become popular in Canada but don’t have a big profile in the United States. There do seem to be some distinctly Canadian artists. Maybe Canadians do have distinct tastes for music, or maybe the CanCon rules are actually working.
I decided to compose a mixed CD to give her a taste of Canadian music. I found this year’s Juno CD had many of the songs I was planning on using, so I bought her that CD and also created my own CD.

P.S. Aside is possibly my favorite Weakerthans song. Every time I hear it, I want to dance.

I’m going to listen to “Aside” right NOW.
But I don’t like the Weakerthans in concert. Every time I see them, I feel ripped off.

If she asks for a sequel, then you must put on “One Great City”.

Thanks JP. Those are all excellent bands. I especially like Metric. I have to admit my knowledge of Indie bands is lacking, but I’m learning and liking what I hear.
I just thought I’d point out Chantal Kreviazuk and Doc Walker are from Manitoba too.
