Highlight: Hopping between islands using the water busses.
Lowlight: Deciding to part ways with Ben, but only for one day. When he goes to Milan I’m heading to Lucerne. We’ll meet back up in Interlaken.
Fun Fact: Murano is famous for its glass blowing. Venetian glass blowers were forced to move to the island because of fire worries.

This morning we avoided the 10 E ferry ride and instead took a bus into town. It took a little longer, but we spent the money we saved on a 12 E transit pass which gives us access to the water busses (vaporettos). With the vaporetto we could move around the island quicker and visit the other islands.
Our first stop was Murano, the island famous for its glass blowing. We watched a demonstration, which kind of blowed. Ben ended up buying some glass as a souvenir, but I couldn’t find anything I thought would be practical enough that I would enjoy it – I’m not looking for a paper weight.
After Murano, we hopped over to Lido, the island with a big sandy beach on it. The beach was nice and it was warm when the sun was out. I didn’t bother going in the water and instead relaxed and read.
After Lido, we wandered around the main island and found a restaurant for dinner. I had a really tasty linguine with shrimp and zucchini. After dinner we had another mad scramble getting back. First we went to the train station, ran to catch a train to the mainland, just missed it, started walking to the bus station to catch a bus, then realized the train would be faster, so we went back, caught our train, and then caught the last bus back to the campground.
The camp ground is quite as peaceful at night as it was when we arrived in the afternoon. The bar was packed with rowdies from a Kontiki tour. We tried to find Graeme, but he must have been passed out under a table somewhere.
Tonight I decided to skip out on Milan. Ben is going in 2 days to meet a New York friend for dinner. I have no interest in seeing Milan. Our compromise solution is to tomorrow in Lake Como, then I’ll head up to Lucerne (via the scenic mountain railway pass) for a day and Ben will go to Milan. We’ll meet up in Interlaken. I think it’s a good idea. I feel bad about deserting him, but I would have been grumpy in Milan anyway and some time alone might be a good thing.
